The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics is currently housed in the W.B. Young building at the University of Connecticut and is ranked in the top 10% and 18th worldwide (RePEc, April 2016). ARE has experienced a 79% increase in enrollment of graduate students in the past three years.
Our department consists of three degree programs:
Bachelor of Science in Applied & Resource Economics
Master of Science in Applied & Resource Economics
Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural and Resource Economics
The undergraduate major offers three different concentrations for students to choose from in Marketing and Business Management, Environmental Economics and Policy, and International Development. ARE also offers three minors in Agribusiness Management, Environmental Economics and Policy, and Equine Business Management.
Recent career opportunities offered and accepted by our undergraduates include Commodities Trader at Dreyfus Commodities, Financial Control Risk Analyst with Voya Financial and Client Account Manager for Albourne Partners Ltd. among other well regarded careers. Students are highly encouraged to seek internship opportunities before their Senior year.
Study Abroad opportunities are also available to students. Undergraduates have participated in study abroad programs in countries such as Germany, Spain, Australia, and Italy.
ARE M.S. and Ph.D. graduate career placement is at an all-time high with students landing positions upon graduation in careers such Category Sales Analyst, Assistant Professor, and Global Energy Associate. Notable alumni employment opportunities include Assistant Professor, Director of Environmental Research, Senior Economist, etc.
