Department Scholarships

 

Russell Palen Scholarship
This program offers financial assistance to qualified students majoring in Applied and Resource Economics. Awards are made to incoming and current students based on academic performance. These scholarships are made possible through a departmental endowment in memory of Russell Palen.

Stanley K. Seaver Scholarship
This program offers financial assistance to qualified students majoring in Applied and Resource Economics. These scholarships are made possible through a departmental endowment in memory of Stanley K. Seaver.

Irving and Justine Fellows Fund
This Fund offers financial assistance to qualified students majoring in Applied and Resource Economics. These scholarships are made possible through a departmental endowment in memory of Irving and Justine Fellows.

Del Favero Agricultural Economics Fund
This Fund provides financial support to students enrolled in Applied and Resource Economics. Awards are based on outstanding academic achievement and/or financial need. Awards are made twice a year to recipients provided satisfactory academic progress is achieved. These scholarships are made in honor of Professors Johnson, Seaver and Fellows.

Nathan Koenig AG/EC Student Fund
This Fund provides financial support or assistance for students in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.  Priority consideration will go to graduate or undergraduate students who major in Agricultural Economics, giving preference to those with course work in general or practical Agriculture. Among the criteria to be considered by the Scholarship Committee in selection of scholarship recipients are academic standing and financial need.

The scholarship amounts vary by student and year within $500-3,000 per semester. Typically, at least 10 ARE students receive departmental scholarships each semester, so students are always encouraged to apply.

College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR) Scholarships

To be considered for any of these scholarships, students must submit a scholarship application by the specified due date. Please see the link above for further details. The amount of the scholarship awards varies from year to year, but generally students can receive $300-$5,000. Scholarship awards have different eligibility requirements (e.g. academic performance, financial need, voluntarism, extracurricular activities, leadership activities, or service to CAHNR and the community).

Farm Credit East Scholarship

Farm Credit East awards up to thirty-one $1,500 scholarships to qualified students. They look for students committed to having a career in agriculture, commercial fishing, or the forest products industry.

For additional scholarship opportunities, please contact the UConn’s Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships. UConn’s Office of National Scholarships & Fellowships works with high-achieving current UConn students or alumni who may be eligible for certain externally funded competitive undergraduate or graduate scholarships & fellowships. Strong candidates possess a high GPA (usually 3.5 or above), have research experience, and/or demonstrate extracurricular involvement and leadership.
